Welcome to this week’s Comacan Questions interview, this week’s interview is coming at you from some guests up North from us here. Up north holds a special place in our hearts, because of the natural beauty up there and the blissful peace and quiet. One of the guests we had on a previous interview said it best on his own website, the north is home to a lot of hidden gems and that’s even more true with one of the latest parks built up that way, but we will let today’s guest tell you more about that and themselves. Please enjoy this week’s interview with 705Skateboarding.
What is 705Skateboarding?
705Skateboarding is a family brand that I envisioned in January 2023 to get more involved in the skateboard community and support local companies in the area.
Why did you choose the name 705skateboarding?
I’ve grown up in the Kawartha Lakes my whole life and 705 has always been my area code. So 705Skateboarding seemed quite fitting for a company name.
What was the inspiration behind starting 705skateboarding?
Since 1993 I have had a passion for everything skateboarding. I used skateboarding as a cathartic tool to help me overcome the obstacles of life. I wanted to be able to give back to my community and skateboarding, after some health issues forced me to make some life changes. It’s always been my go-to for the good and the bad. I want to inspire others to keep going with their goals and dreams.
How do you get involved in the community?
I recently got involved with the grand opening of the BGCKL Skate Park by donating several mini skateboards and obstacles. This park is amazing and I frequent the park several times a week. I enjoy chatting with the locals at the local parks and do my best to encourage, support and respect to our skateparks. To get more involved in the community I am currently in the works of setting up my own mini skatepark community and small shop which I plan to run out of my garage.
What does skateboarding mean to you personally?
As I mentioned earlier skateboarding has always been there for me since I was a young kid. Skateboarding for me is where I can connect with others and free myself from anything that life might have going on. Recently I started using it as a way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors and nice weather with my family.
Do you have any events planned for 2023?
I don’t have any set event dates as of yet but keep your eyes on my socials for future events! I currently have lots in the works!!!
What sets the Kawartha Lakes skateboarding community apart?
With it being a small-town community, it makes it pretty tight. Especially since the new park was built you see a lot of familiar faces on a regular basis. It’s nice seeing a younger generation of skateboarders in our community get use of the new park, enjoying the outdoors and getting exercise.
Anyone you’d like to thank?
First and foremost I want to thank my amazing family who have been so supportive over the years. I also want to thank BGCKL for working so hard to make this skatepark happen for our community, and 66Thieves for everything they do for our skateboarding community and their awesome gear. Shout out to the Kawartha Lakes and everyone doing their part for skateboarding in our community.
