Welcome back to Comacan Questions, this week we are joined by a guest that we have worked with in the past for some of our shipping needs. Through the skateboard community we’ve met again in a different way. Recommended from one of our readers, we reached out to this week’s guest and had found that he had gone from a previous career to his dream and own business venture in starting his own Skateshop. We are stoked to see him living his dream and we are proud to share this week’s interview with Tilt Skateshop.
What was the inspiration behind opening a skate shop?
I decided to open TILT because I made a promise to myself when I was 13 years that I would one day open my own skateboard shop and after 30 years, I finally brought my dream to fruition. As a youth, I found solace in skateboarding. It was always me against myself and constantly challenged me to improve as a skateboarder and individual. Learning different tricks, skating with friends, and being with like-minded individuals allowed me to share this passion with others. I have worked in skateboard shops through my teen years and although I may not have skated as often into my adult years I still continued to pay attention to the sport and never lost the love and passion for it.
Why did you choose the name Tilt?
I’ve had the name in the back of my head for many years, Usually, when you’re on a board and doing tricks, you’re kind of tilted in all different ways,” “Tilt, I think it’s a cool, easy, simple name.” so I went with that.
Where is the shop located? Where can people view your products?
TILT Skateboard Shop is located at the Royal Courtyards in Bolton 18 King Street East, Unit # M7 (beside the guardian pharmacy) and we can be found online at www.tiltskateboardshop.com
What does skateboarding mean to you personally?
It helped me a lot during my youth into my teenage years! I believe it can do a lot of good for kids and everyone’s mental health. I loved that I could do it even if it was by myself, it’s a sport I never had to wait for someone to be around to do. I also was obsessed with working on tricks, I would be out all hours trying to land that certain trick I had to land. I always said my love for skateboarding far exceeds my talent.
What do Canadian brands mean to you?
I think It’s cool to see companies from your own backyard come up. There are a lot of new companies and ones that have been around for a while. I’m looking forward to working with new and seasoned Canadian brands from all over the country.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
I’d first and foremost like to thank my wife Trish as she has been with me every step of the way with love and support staying up late working on the store whether it be online or in-store, and I’d like to thank my kids for helping along the way. I’d also like to thank my family and friends for lending a hand if need be, stopping by with Tims and kind and encouraging words throughout, it’s very much appreciated. Thank you, thank you thank you!
