Welcome back to Comacan questions, this week we are joined by yet another guest we came across online. It’s a bit of a common theme for us that we will see some killer clips or some slick looking product and want to know more about these brands, This week’s guest we came across exactly like that, we saw some ripping clips and wanted to learn more about them. Now we’re happy to spread the word, please enjoy this week’s interview with Keystone Speed Co.

What was the inspiration behind starting a skateboarding brand?
Funny enough I actually just started riding again last year, after not skating for 8 years. I broke my spine in 3 places from a car accident so I took a break for a while. But last year an old homie hit me up and asked me if I wanted to start again and going to comps/events and shit like that, so we did. I started noticing all these deck companies popping up, but no bearing companies or anything bearing related. So, I decided to do something different. I grew up really poor, so I always had to maintain my bearings since i couldn’t buy them. When I was a kid id mess around with different lubes and cleaners, so that kinda lit a lightbulb in my head last year to do something in that realm.

Why did you choose the name Keystone Speed Co?
I wouldn’t say I chose the name per say, I dabbled around with a few titles and nothing really struck me as catchy or appealing. I was at Philly Am last year and Keystone Speed .Co just kinda clicked in my head. So, I ran with it.

What products do you sell?
We sell homemade bearing cleaning oil and speed lube kits. But we also sell a little bit of apparel as of now. I’m hoping to do more and introduce shirts, hoodies, long sleeves etc. I’m also working on pushing us into the realm of being an actual bearing company this year. Hopefully we will carry abec 7s, abec 9s and abec 11s.

Where can people view these products?
For now, our products get posted directly to Instagram and can be viewed on our page. Purchases are currently done through venmo until I start stocking enough product to have a big cartel site page…. which im hoping to get a lot this done in the next few months.

Where are you based out of?
We are from a small city in south eastern PA called Lancaster. It’s about an hour and forty-five minutes west of Philadelphia. Being from PA is also a big part of our aesthetic being that Pennsylvania is the dubbed “the keystone state”.

What does skateboarding mean to you?
Skateboarding isn’t just skateboarding to me, it’s a very large portion of my soul, its saved my life countless times and has brought me back from the trenches, when all I owned was a board. I came from a broken single parent home, so skating became my release/outlet from the world, became my best friend, my counselor, my first love. Skating means everything to me, it’s a part of me. I’d go batshit off the deep end without a board.

Do you have a team?
Ehhh, I wouldn’t say it’s a team, I’d say it’s more of a crew of clinically insane degenerates that skate 🤣🤣🤣. Some of us do compete, some of us don’t. We just like to have fun; it’s not about winning or being better for us. We just roll up; rip and we leave. So, we tend to keep the vibes high and the negativity light.

Anyone you’d like to thank?
Hell yeah, I’d like to thank all the rad ass boys in the Keystone Crew and all of the other gnarly homies that support us. I also wanna thank the absolute rippers that are all the Lancaster PA locals.
