Welcome back to Comacan Questions, this week we are joined by some guests we had the chance to meet while on the road on a skatepark tour to meet another guest we’ve had on before (Success Goons – Interview #30). While hanging out at the skatepark with Deacon of Success goons we got to chatting with some more local skateboarders and that’s when I heard about this local initiative in their community, but we will let them tell you more about that. Please Enjoy this week’s interview with Get Pushin.
What is Get Pushin?
Get Pushin is just two dudes (Sam and Kam) who love to skate, and want to inspire others to get pushin! We run an Instagram page where we post about events and things going on in our local community.
What is the inspiration behind Get Pushin?
We both wanted to start something that had to do with the local skate scene, at first, we were gonna start a little brand but the upfront costs were too expensive. So, we decided to start an Instagram page. At first, we weren’t sure what the page would consist of so we sat on the idea for a bit, but shortly after we decided that the page would focus on the idea of trying to grow the skate community. And so, Get Pushin was born!
Where are you based out of?
We are based out of Sudbury Ontario.
How can people get involved?
People can get involved by just being supportive towards new skaters and those in their local scene, our main goal is to encourage new and old skaters alike to get on a board. So, by being supportive to those around you, you are helping us achieve our goal.
What does skateboarding mean to you personally?
Kam: Skateboarding means a lot to me, I’ve always been interested in it since a young age but never tried it because “it was too dangerous” until, about 2 years ago when I bought my first complete. I instantly fell in love. It helped me through a lot of rough times and allowed me to meet amazing people. I should’ve started sooner.
Sam: Skateboarding for me, is a great hobby, but it also keeps my life engaging and fun constantly. I skate everywhere, to work, around town, just going to a friend’s place, all while trying to hit every new spot I find.
How does Get Pushin get involved in the local scene?
We get involved by showing up to local events such as skate jams and little sesh’s and chatting with skaters from all around Sudbury. One day we would like to host our own events and hold contests that focus on beginner skaters.
Why did you choose the name Get Pushin?
We wanted to pick a name that stood out. We brainstormed a bunch of different names but couldn’t find one. We spent about a day trying to decide on one until Sam made a joke. “Why can’t we just find a name that’ll get people pushin man!” And that was it. We put Get and pushin together and that’s how it was made. We liked how it sounded like a catchphrase and how it kinda sounded like a demand so that when people read the name it would grab their attention. Not the most interesting way to choose a name but it worked!
Anyone you’d like to thank?
Kam: I would like to thank Comacan for giving us this opportunity!!
Sam: I’d like to thank Kam for getting me into skating in the first place, because before I stood on his board I never thought of skating once.
