Welcome back to Comacan Questions, due to some technical difficulties with a word file disappearing this interview’s intro had been rewritten but after a small bump on the road we are happy to be able to put this interview out. Onto more important things the guests we have today we first came across from some online posts by another guest we’ve interviewed before, Queer Skate Toronto (Interview #95). QST and this week’s guests had teamed up to host a Deck clinic and we instantly wanted to learn more about them and share what we found out; we hope you enjoy learning some more about today’s guests as much as we did. Please enjoy this week’s interview with Sisters of Shred.

What is Sisters of Shred?
Sisters of shred is a not-for-profit skateboarding crew for beginners by beginners. Founded by Lisa Goldberg, Alicia den Ouden and Elisha Muskat.

Why did you choose the name Sisters of Shred?
We see ourselves as a community learning to shred and a sisterhood to help connect with others and ourselves. It’s also a nod to the rad vibes of the late 80s and 90s when many of us were coming of age for the first time.

Where do you operate?
Toronto

Do you sell any products?
We do! Each year we collaborate with a local artist to create something that represents our community. This year we worked with Jules Monson to create a utility tote that can hold all your skate gear. You can check it out here.

How can people stay up to date on events?
Through our Instagram or our monthly calendar in our website here.

What does skateboarding mean to you?
Freedom, community, creativity, individualism, fun, sisterhood, belonging, doing something hard, a tool for improving mental health and friendship.

Anyone you’d like to thank?
Our crew of sisters that inspire us everyday. Without you, SOS wouldn’t exist. We would also like to thank our sponsors and supporters – Muskoka BrewerySupra DistributionTSGBrockton HauntBlue Tile LoungeSo Hip and our incredible team of ambassadors:
