Welcome back to Comacan Questions this week we are joined by some guests we had the chance to meet up with this past summer. A collective of skateboarders whose passion for skateboarding has led to the creation of the skatepark and one of the most unique Skateshop location and operation. Driven by the love for skateboarding and the culture that surrounds it, these guests are a positive force that inspires, strengthens, and grows their local scene and beyond. We are proud to present this week’s interview with Eclectic Skateshop.

What was the inspiration behind opening a Skateshop?

The inspiration for the shop was a way to help maintain and grow our local skate community on our own terms.

Where are you located?
We are located directly on the Marina Skateboard Plaza in Thunder Bay, ON. A park we helped design, build, and maintain.

Why did you choose the name Eclectic?
The name was brought up by a local OG. We take inspiration from different skating styles, fashion, and music to make our own individual identities.

What makes Eclectic different?
We all work other jobs full time and then volunteer afterwards to run the shop. Can just concentrate paying forward the love of skateboarding without having to just worry about bills and profit margins. No compromises that way, all about the skating.

What does skateboarding mean to you?
A showcase of your own individual style and personality. A release from the everyday stresses of life. A place for outcasts to belong.

Where can people view available products?
On our insta/Facebook pages. No website, the product is here to support our own local skate scene. If you have one, support your local skate shop. Without them, the community and culture disappear into the corporate mist.

How does Eclectic get involved in the community?
Events, lessons, demos, skate spot/skatepark advocating, whatever needs to be done to maintain and build our local skate scene.

Anyone you’d like to thank?
The entire Thunder Bay skateboard community. Respect the past, live in the present, build for the future.
