Welcome back to Comacan Questions, this is the first one of the year for 2024 and we are stoked to get the ball rolling on more interviews this year. With that being said we are stoked to share an interview with a group we’ve followed online for some time and are stoked to see all that they do. Please enjoy this week’s interview with the Hammer Squad.
What is the Hammer Squad?
Hammer Squad first and foremost, is a collection of homies/skaters. A platform to elevate skate content on and a clothing company.
Why did you choose the name Hammer Squad?
Hammers is a term we would frequently use back in the era of the squads inception. On route to Inflow skatepark with Zach Cook and Cory Tynan, we sort of spit balled the name together (May 1st 2014) and filmed the first ever Hammer Squad edit that day.
Where are you based out of?
We are based out of London, Ontario.
Where can people view available products?
I like doing limited drops on product so that what ever people get, is and remains special. When I drop new garments I will post about it on our page, but I am currently looking into some online shop options that will have product available 24/7.
What was the inspiration to start the Hammer Squad?
The original inspirations were my grandfather and my mom. Both had similar input that I needed to start branding my content (hot off the successful release/premiere of my 3rd skateboard film “Live and Let Die” in 2014) But the ongoing drive and main inspiration for the squad is curating a group of talented and committed skaters, especially those that may not have access to videographers/photographers/media gurus to help them elevate their skate career.
What does skateboarding mean to you?
Skating to me is a creative outlet, a source for venting and a tool for exploring our planet in a way that inspires and provides many new ways of seeing the world we live in. It is also an excellent social tool thats introduced me to some of the most interesting people out there. Skating and travel are meant to go hand in hand as exploring new areas is so crucial for diversifying footage. Early on as a kid, my Dad was a huge help to this as he would frequently work all over Southern Ontario and would load the car up with my friends. He would get us a hotel room so we could film in what ever city he was in at the time.
How can people keep up to date with the Hammer Squad?
People can keep up with us on our instagram ( @thehammersquad ) I have started editing our massive 5+ year film project “The Hammer Squad Video” and will be posting updates through the editing process there.
